This quilt is made from antique quilt blocks found at an estate sale in the mid-1990s. The pattern is the male version of Sun Bonnet Sue and is called Overall Sam. Five of the six blocks have a red handkerchief in the Sam’s back right pocket. I put the blocks together and then had a friend hand quilt it for me using Baptist Fan quilting. The blocks are 14” square. The quilt is 35.5” X 53.5”.

Too too cute! But I'm fascinated to know why Sam only has hankies in 5 pockets? Did you do that on purpose or is it because the fabric was thus?
Jabulani, that's how I the blocks were when I bought them. I decided not to add a hankie to the 6th one.

I love finding old quilt blocks and putting them together. One of my prettiest quilts I got that way. I can just imagine the woman who worked on them and then put them aside, or got too old to finish them. I like to think of part of her being passed on to other generations. blessings, marlene
