Mother’s Wisdom

Never put sharp knives in the sink.”

I hear Mom’s voice, as I pull my hand out of the dish water. Blood flows from my left palm. I make a fist, the index finger remains straight.

It isn’t nice to point your finger at anyone.”

My husband rushes into the room.

Oh no! Are you ok?

Kitchen knives are dangerous to surgeons! A local optho cut a tendon recently with a kitchen while trying to slice bagels.

I'm not injured, but my husband does have the bad habit of putting knives in the sink. Can't seem to change that. :)

I'm glad you are all right! I was so alarmed with the post I sighed with relief when I read the comments. Nice creative expression:)

we put ours behind the faucet ...but convincing the boys that the reason to do that is to protect from cuts ...therefore they MUST go blade down, not just tossed back there is like pulling teeth!
Add to that ..when you're doing the dishes, get the knives behind the faucet!
Knives are a constant source of 'pain' in our household!

I can't convince my husband to stop putting knives in the sink either. One of these days I'll get cut like you and he'll feel like dirt - I hate that for him, and for me. But it's even more dangerous for you since you make your living with your hands. I'd be plenty mad if I couldn't do my embroidery though. :) blessings, marlene

I learned my lesson on this one when my boss in the camp bakery where I was working in college cut her hand on a knife I had left in the sink. She had severely arthritic hands and had warned me about knives in the sink on more than on occasion. She almost ended up at the hospital for stitches, but the bleeding finally stopped. Few things since then have made me feel as guilty. SInce then, I never put knives in the sink - I just sit them on the counter adjacent to it until I wash them.

Glad you hand is ok.

Geesh, don't stop the post like that!! You worried me.

Fireguy does that too. He'll throw them in under the water when he's soaking something. I've asked him not to, but he still does it.

I like the minimalist attempt at words...I don't think I could ever do it. Well done! And glad to hear you are okay.
