Comfort

Last summer I wrote a post on Comfort when my friend’s dad died.  This past week my family and I found ourselves on the receiving end.  Our family and friends have gathered around us.  It is amazing to me, especially those of you who I have not even met in person.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  I don’t think I can express what you all mean to me.

Thank you.

I think in some cases you can get a feel for who the person is behind the writing not always, but in some cases).

We have met in spirit, through this technology. We are known to one another in the ways that allow for each of us to connect with, and relate to one an other during both the good times and the bad. I have found both realms enrich our lives.

I've been watching your postings for word. It's always so hard when these things come into our lives. I hope you feel a lot of cyber hugs.

I read your post on comfort about our mutual friends. I too, had stopped by with coffee and stuff to that effect. Mrs. R is amazing and I have seen her since and she is living a full, happy life. After being a Parkinsons victim's caregiver 24/7 she deserves some happiness.

Which leads me to my story, my husband moved here from Canada exactly 10 years ago. I remember our first Southern funeral we attended together. Visitation at the house with food, visitation at the funeral home (open casket) with the deceased in overalls with a fishing pole in his hands. The next day, the funeral and the burial and the lunch for the family... he had never seen anything like it. I had really never thought anything about our funerals here in the south, until I went to his mothers a few year later. Visitation was at the cemetary where they buried her ashes beside her husband's. Family only were there, that meant 7 people. Then we drove to a church where there was a small ceremony with a few words by one of her son's in law. The church provided lunch for us and then we went home. That was it. Granted she was older and not much family, but I found it so different from our weeklong mourning with services, food, more food, and visting.

I read your posts almost daily Ramona. I love them. Just thought I'd share with you. I hope peace is with you during this time of stress.

I find it fascinating that you and I have never met, yet I consider you one of my most special friends! And at the moment my heart aches for you. I cannot tell you how much I wish I could just wrap my arms around you and hug you. I so hope you know that :)

When my grandmother died back in February, I posted it to my facebook status. I had messages of support from people all over the world; it was staggering. Those simple few words were such a balm. God bless and keep you and your family, and especially your mom. My prayers and thoughts continue to be with you all. Your twupdates are such a blessing to me as I 'walk' thru' this with you. x
