Trapunto Fabric Postcard

This fabric postcard is made using a whole cloth quilting with trapunto to give the lizard an added dimensional effect.  I machine quilted around the lizard.
I then added yarn (wool/acrylic) for the trapunto.
The yarn was then trimmed prior to adding the pelon stabilizer, triangles for hanging, and binding.
Here is the finished postcard, 5 in X 6.5 in.

Puppies in Waiting Wall Hanging Quilt

This wall hanging is made using a linen tea towel as the centerpiece.  I framed it with a lovely brown/black batik and added appliqued dog biscuits.  I used the same machine the trapunto technique I used on the African whole cloth quilt to help add a little 3-D effect to the puppies.

Here is the finished quilt.  It measures 25 in X 33 in.  It is machine pieced, appliqued, and quilted.

Here is a close up to show the one dog looking forward.

This one show more of the border detail.

Here is the back which is brown/white print.  I'll add a sleeve for hanging ease and a label, then I plan to donate it to the Humane Society of Pulaski County to be used in one of their fund-raiser silent auctions.

African Whole Cloth Quilt Finished!

I have finally finished!  As implied by the title, there was no piecing of this quilt top.  I loved the fabric so much I just couldn’t cut it into pieces so I just quilted it.  I attempted to do some machine trapunto.  The effect is less than I had hoped.  I think I should have used an even higher loft polyester batting for the trapunto.  I might even should have used it for the entire quilt rather than switching to Hobb’s Heirloom cotton batting.  Still, it is lovely and my photos don’t do it justice.

It is machine quilted in an echo pattern.  The quilt measures 52.75 in X 70 in.

Here you can see the some of the echo quilting. Notice the animals could use a little more “stuffing.”
Another photo to try to show off the quilting.
Here’s the back (really the fabric is a lovely green)
Here you can see the quilting better.  Again not the animals could use a little more “stuffing.”
Another photo of some of the back detail
I haven’t decided what to do with this quilt.  I have a few options in mind, but am open to suggestions.

WIP -- African Whole Cloth Quilt

A friend from high school gave me some gorgeous fabric from her travels.  She was cleaning out her closets and I won the lottery.  This gorgeous fabric is from the African continent (the stickers fell off so I don’t know for sure which country).   It measures approximately 56 in X 76 in (photo only shows part of it).  I couldn’t bring myself to cut it up into smaller pieces so have decided to make a whole cloth quilt.
I felt the animals and trees needed to be three dimensional, so have opted to use the trapunto method of sewing polyfil batting to the fabric and then trimming around each piece to remove the batting from areas that aren’t meant to “stand out.”
I then made a quilt sandwich of the quilt front, cotton batting (Hobbs), and the quilt back (which is a lovely green though the below photo has washed it out).  I am now in the process of machine quilting the piece.  I’m using outline or echo quilting.

Ruched Roses Quilt – Finished

More than three years ago, I began this quilt.  I reached a point where I wasn’t happy with it.  I simply put it aside and worked on other projects.  That act of putting it aside and coming back to it later gave me a different prospective.  I pulled it back out earlier this year and actually undid much of the work, redid the border, and finished the quilt.

The quilt has ruched roses made by hand and appliqued onto the quilt by hand.  The center rose is appliqued by hand and has extra batting just beneath it (trapunto technique) to give it extra dimension.  The stems and leaves are machine appliqued.

The wall hanging measures 56 in square.  It is machine quilted.  Here is a close up of one of the corner ruched roses.
Here is the center rose.
The yellow ruched rose along with tulips.
A detail of the double-folded ribbon border which is machine pieced.
Here are two photos of the back before the sleeve and label were sewn on to show the quilting.
Here you can see the trapunto effect beneath the center rose better than from the front.

Happy New Year to you all!
