Doctor My Eyes

I made this small art quilt last month and gave it to my ophthalmologist.  It's sort of a self-portrait since I used a photo of my eyes/ face but I didn't add all the fine lines/ wrinkles.  It is raw-edge applique and both machine and hand quilted.  Measures 4.5 in X 10 in.  I think he liked it when I gifted it to him at my recent yearly exam.

Small Log Cabin Scrappy Quilt

Recently finished this small scrappy quilt.  The block is courthouse steps.  The finished quilt is ~17.5 in square.

If you look closely you can see where the reds bleed a bit when I washed out my quilt markings.  It's much more apparent on the back.

Three Small Pieces

These small (5 in square pieces were done prior to last week's featured piece after I heard about the call for 5x5 art pieces.  The first two are 5 in square quilts and the third is a 5 in square quilted postcard. This first one was made using a scrap piece of fabric reminiscent of the 60s/70s.  I machine quilted pink, green, and yellow pieces then machine quilted it.
This one is machine appliqued and quilted also.  It was inspired by swimming near dawn in the open pool at my local athletic club while practicing my back stroke.
This one has the stiff Pelon stabilizer that makes it a postcard.  It is inspired by love of Matisse art work.  In this case the Blue Nude though mine is done as a pink nude on blue background.  It is machine appliqued and quilted.
All of the pieces have small triangle pieces on the back to allow easy hanging if desired.

Lizzie Portrait Quilt

I made this small quilt portrait, 5 in square, in response to a fund raising event the Arkansas Repertory Theatre is doing.  In September they posted a request for artist to do pieces of artwork for their upcoming “5x5” art show. Every artist was told to pick up a 5 in square canvas to ensure size conformity.   My initial thought was to do a 5 in square quilt or postcard.  Then I decided to do this quilted portrait of my dog Lizzie (appliqued top quilted to batting without an actual quilt back or binding) and wrap the canvas.  Here it is.
I used mistyfuse to attach the quilt to the canvas (literally ironed it on) then wrapped the fabric and sewed the fabric to itself and the canvas.

Toes in the Water Small Quilt

I took the photo of my toes in water a few years back during a vacation to the gulf shores.  I printed it onto fabric and made this small quilt.  It  measures 16 in square. It is machine pieced.  While I machine quilted along the diagonal thin strips, it is mostly hand quilted with small circles (bubbles).
Here you can see some of the quilted circles and the binding which I managed to line up with one of the diagonal strips.

Colors, Dark to Light, Quilt

This small quilt, approx 34.5 in x 38.5 in, was made using 5 in squares from a fabric sample pack.  Same color squares were sew together with 0.5 in white strips (1 in with seam allowance).  The rows were sew together with 1 in white strips (1.5 in with seam allowance).  I added white fabric along the end of each row as need, moving the colors over by a half inch.  Then strips of white where added on the top and bottom.  The quilt is machine pieced and quilted.
This photo show some of the quilting.

Intersections

I made this small quilt, 15.25 in square, as my entry in the ALQS9.  It was inspired by the art cover of JAMA back in July 2010.  The art piece is "Night Intersection" by Charmion von Wiegand.  This first photo has the front JAMA page I had saved along with the pieced quilt top.

The small quilt is machine pieced and quilted.  Here is the finished quilt.

Here is the back of the quilt.  I will add a sleeve for hanging and a label.

Small Flower Basket Quilt

The 2015 National Quilt Association Quilt Show will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas (my hometown).  This is the quilt I made and submitted hoping it will be accepted for the show.  It used mixed techniques -- piecing, applique, beading, three dimensional flowers.  It is machine quilted.  The quilt measures 23.5 in X 25.5 in.
This photo shows the flowers and quilting in a bit more detail.
This quilt does the same.
This photo shows quilting from the back.
