Hat and Fingerless Mittens

I made these mittens mostly using some yarn given to me by a colleague's wife.  The fiber content was unknown and a ran out just shy of finishing the second mitten.  I guessed at the yarn (baby alpaca) and got close but not an exact match.  The pattern is Fallberry Mitts by Anne Hanson.

I then used the remainder of the purchased yarn to make this basic hat.  The pattern is Regular Guy Beanie by Chuck Wright.

Pleasingly Black Shawl/Scarf

I made this shawl/scarf at the request of a friend.  She asked for something soft, airy, and lacy.  This project took me several months to complete.  It frustrated me at times when I had to undo rows to correct a mistake, but I am pleased with the end result.  So is my friend.  The pattern is Pleasing Reversibility in Lace by Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer.  The yarn is  Shibui Knits Silk Cloud.  The finished blocked shawl/scarf is 20 in X 70 in.

Christmas in July Postcards

Still on the fabric postcard bend.  I've been watching the Hallmark Channel Christmas in July movies which inspired me to do a couple of Christmas postcards. The fabric is from a Debbie Mumm series several years ago.  I simple cut out the rectangles of the Santas, machine quilted them, and then did the binding.  The one on the left with the green binding measures 4 3/4 in X 5 7/8 in.  The other one measures 4 3/8 in X 5 1/2 in.

Three Hats

As you may be able to tell from the post last week and today after finishing the pleasingly black shawl/scarf which took months to complete I have resorted to smaller projects finished in a short period of time.  These three hats fit nicely.  I used left-over Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande.  The first two hats are an adult size and an infant size beanie.  The patterns are Regular Guy Beanie by Chuck Wright and Ali's Premie/Newborn Beanie by Tajie Maxedon.

The pattern for this wide-brimmed hat is Brangelina Hat by Laurie Perry.

Fabric Postcards

I've been making fabric postcards lately.  This first one is a flag quilt, inspired by July 4th but also good for any day of the year here in America.  It is machine piece and quilted with iron-on beads for stars.  It measures 8 in X 5 in.

 

This second one is a sailboat on a lovely summer day.  I inked in a bird in the sky. Both machine piecing and applique is used.  It too is machine quilted.  It measures 6.5 in X 4.5 in.

Another Scrappy Child's Quilt

Here's my latest scrappy child's quilt (earlier post when in progress).  It is machine pieced and quilted.  It measures approx 45 in X 57 in. 

 

In this are there are many colors (blue, green, yellow, browns, and more), dots, horses, cats.

 

In this are a pink poodle, a motorcycle, horses, a robot, leaves, and lemons/limes.

 

In this are more cats, lorax, a lizard, trick or treat, tulips, snowmen.

 

This area has the working pocket, cats, faces, thread spools, hearts, stars.

Non-felted Slippers for my Husband

These slippers were knitted for my husband using yarn that a colleague's wife gave to me (thinning her stash).  The yarn is Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande.  The pattern for the slippers is Non-felted Slippers by Yuko Nakamura. 

And like I did for these slippers the bottoms were treated to make them skid resistant.

My #OLFA35 Quilt Block

A few weeks ago I was contacted by an OLFA representative asking if I would like to participate in the 35^th Anniversary Celebration this summer by either creating a square for their 35^th Anniversary Commemorative Quilt which will be displayed this October at the International Quilt Market in Houston in October or by hosting a reader giveaway.  I choose to create a square for the quilt.  In return for participating I was sent a kit of OLFA products (a cutting board, a rotary cutter, a 6.5 in square ruler.  There were only two rules for the quilt block:  1) it had to be 6.5 in square (will be 6 in square when sewn into the quilt) and 2) had to include the color yellow.  Here's my #OLFA35 block.

WIP--Pleasingly Black Shawl

I have no new finished projects to share this week.  This is my current knitting project which I have been working on for weeks now.  Still have many weeks to go as it is only about half finished. The pattern is Pleasing Reversibility in Lace by Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer.  The yarn is Shibui Knits Silk Cloud which is very soft.  The yarn can be difficult (as least for me) to frog (or unknit) when I make a mistake.  One reason it is so slow going.  It’s going to be lovely when finished.

WIP -- Another Scrappy Quilt

I'm working on another scrappy quilt which will be similar in size to the one I recently finished.  Here are some photos showing some finished areas and some other others being planned.

This first photo shows an area in planning featuring horses, eggs, leaves, Lorax, and dogs.

 

This area features a car, stars, a parrot head, an owl, dog paw prints, pink ribbon.

 

As with the last scrappy quilt, this one will have a working pocket.  This area also features hearts, a razorback, thread spools, and more.

 

This are has motorcycles, elephants, a pirate map, faces, and a flying ant.

Another Scrappy Quilt

I finished another scrappy crazy quilt.  This one measures 46 in X 58 in.  It's machine pieced and quilted.  I have another one quilt of the same sort to make, then the two quilts will be going to a friend’s young boys.

 

This next several photos show some points of interest.  In this area of the quilt you find houses, dogs, horses, letters, and many primary colors.

Purple Wisp Scarf

Another scarf using the pattern Wisp by Cheryl Niamath.  This one in a lovely purple wool yarn (Araucania Huasco).  The finished blocked scarf measures approx 10 in X 68 in.  This first photo is of the scarf with one end blocked and the other not. 

These next two photos are of the scarf completely blocked.  I am really please with how it turned out.  The drape is wonderful.
