Carnton House

Today we went just south of Nashville to Franklin, Tennessee. My husband who is a Civil War buff wanted to visit the Carnton Plantation and cemetery. Here are a few pictures. This was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.

We haven't traveled enough in the South. New Orleans only, for the music and food. As a kid, I visited Gettysburg (speaking of Civil War buffs) and I was too young to appreciate it. Now, having read "Killer Angels," among others (I assume your husband has read it -- a great book) I want to go back.

My husband says he has heard of the book. He sticks mostly to reading the nonfiction works. I'm the one who reads the novels.

My motorcycle club is making a "ride" to Franklin. Tennessee is just beautiful and has so much history. I've been reading, on the internet, for 2 days about Franklin and the battle there. The story about Capt. The. Carter is especially striking....he died across the hall from the room he was born in. I'm really looking forward to the trip!
