Two Flag Fabric Postcards

I recently completed these two fabric postcards.  Both are machine pieced and quilted.  Both measure 5 in X 8 in.  I plan to send the top one to a friend for his birthday.
Here is close photo to show the words.

Fabric Postcards

I've been making fabric postcards lately.  This first one is a flag quilt, inspired by July 4th but also good for any day of the year here in America.  It is machine piece and quilted with iron-on beads for stars.  It measures 8 in X 5 in.

This second one is a sailboat on a lovely summer day.  I inked in a bird in the sky. Both machine piecing and applique is used.  It too is machine quilted.  It measures 6.5 in X 4.5 in.

Flag Kite Tail Quilt

As with the quilt I posted last Friday, this one was done for QOV.  It uses 4.5 in X 6.5 in fabric flags in a kite tail quilt pattern.  The quilt is machine pieced and quilted.  The quilt is approx 52 in X 73 in.
Here is a photo of the label made by the quilter (not me, I only pieced and did the binding for this one).

Patriotic Medallion Quilt

Though I haven’t in the past year, I have made several quilts for QOV (Quilts of Valor).   This is one I made starting with an orphan block which I used as a center medallion, then used left over squares to add the border.  To gain more length, I used two other orphan blocks and strip pieced the added portion.  I added a simple white border to increase the overall size.  I’m not sure of the overall size, but I think it is in the 50 in X 70 in range.  The top was machine pieced, then hand quilted.
Sorry the photos are better.  This quilt (& photos) are from around 2003 or 2004 (I think).

Patriotic Pineapple Baby Quilt

I have not yet participated in the Block Lotto exchange, but I follow the blog for inspiration and patterns.   The pattern for May was the Pineapple Blossom block.  I chose to do it in red, white, and blue scarp fabric.
This small baby quilt is 36 in X 46 in.  It is machine pieced and quilted.
Here is a close up to show the blocks/fabric.
The back fabric is a lovely white on white with large polka dots.

Dallas' Patriotic Quilt

I made this quilt for my nephew when his mother mentioned the one I had made for him previously was getting quite worn.  This time I chose to make him a patriotic quilt.  I began with the 8-pointed star which was left over from some long forgotten project and used it as the center of the medallion.

The quilt was sort of a personal “round-robin” as I added sections.  The quilt is machine pieced and quilted.  I finished it in October 2003.  It is 77 in X 79 in.

I want to thank Amy, his mom and my sister-in-law, for taking the photos for me.  Sorry they don’t show the entire quilt.

This shows the center a little better.

As we begin Memorial Day weekend, I want to thank all active and retired military, as well as their families, for the service and sacrifices they have made and make for us all.

Patriotic Sampler Quilt

One thing my blog has helped me do is better documentation of my quilts.  My husband has been after me for years to take better pictures of them before giving them away.  He wanted me to keep records of the each one.  Unfortunately, I didn’t do a good job of that in the past.  I found two Polaroid photos of this patriotic sampler quilt that I made after September 11, 2001.  I quickly took the photos before mailing it in the spring of 2003 to Laura and George W Bush.

Anyway, I had the four churn dash blocks and the small pinwheel and pineapple blocks as my start.  If my memory is correct the blocks are 12 in square.  I think the sashing is 3 in wide.  I think the borders are 5 inches wide.  If my memory is correct, then the quilt measures 52 in X 67 in.
I’m not sure if I have the names of all the blocks correct, so feel free to correct me if not (Celeste).  Starting at the top from left to right, then the second row from left to right, and so on:
1.   Evening Star with Pinwheel in center
2.   Churn Dash
3.   Stepping Stones
4.   Odd Fellow’s Cross
5.   Grecian Cross (rotated 45 degrees)
6.   Many Pointed Star
7.   Churn Dash
8.   Ribbons
9.   Churn Dash
10.  Eight-pointed  Star with Pineapple Square in center
11.  Churn Dash
12.  Mosaic Star
I added several rosettes which you can see (though not well – I wish I’d taken better pictures.).  The one with the gold base began as a strip of black & white striped ribbon folded into the rosette.  The small black one on the “ribbons” block is a rushed rose.

The fabric on the left side border has frogs holding American Flags which I just loved but didn’t have enough of to do all four borders.  It is on two borders.  The other two have red fabric with roses.
