“Can you remove this scar?”
“No, only change it.” She looks deflated. I ask “What happened?”
“My ex-husband stabbed me,” she quietly says.
“I’m sorry. I can’t remove the scar or it’s history. We’ll give it a new story.”
“How?’’
“A new scar. Let it’s story begin there.”
She smiles.

ReplyDeleteI tell my daughters that "Every Scar is a story." Sometimes I guess the story is one you might want to forget. This was a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving her a new way of looking at herself...as a person instead of a victim.
ReplyDeleteYou have a unique talent for bringing tears to my eyes - and I'm not one for much crying. I read this Saturday at my mom's house and was blown away. I read it to my mom and two other people over the weekend. Similar reactions.
ReplyDeleteRamona - this is your best, for me. It is amazing. I am dumbfounded by your ability to relate to this women on such a personal level - and give her such wonderful advice and support. Each and every patient you have (and friend) is lucky to have you in their life.
