I'm not really sure what this pattern is called. I found it in the magazine Quiltmaker (March/April 08, No 120 Issue). The article title is "Warm Embrace", but no where in the article is the actual block name mentioned. I had no luck finding it in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. I do like the way the quilt came out and will probably use the pattern again.
Here is the top (or flimsy) that I made for the Quilt of Valor (QOV) program. I will in the next week or so be sending it to someone else to do the actual quilting.The top is machine pieced. It is 50 in X 70 in. Here is a close up of some of the fabrics. Each finished block is 10 in square.

This reminds me a little of yellow brick road or turning twenty but it's not really either of those. I like the colors and way they play off each other. blessings, marlene

ReplyDeleteI sent the pic to my mother, who makes quilts, and she did not recognize the pattern. She looked in her umpteen books, too, plus asked some of her friends who also quilt. It's a pretty quilt. Mother wanted to know if it's strip quilted. She said she thought she had figured out a way to do it that way.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with quilters. My grandmothers hand-quilted and I have several of their quilts. My paternal grandmother had 17 children who all had multiple children. She made each grandchild a full sized quilt. Since my dad was the "baby" (youngest of the 17), my brother and I got two of the last she made. They are treasures to us.
It's a good thing you do, on the job and with the quilt piecing. Both add beauty to the world.
Robin, thanks for the comment and to your mother for searching the pattern. I didn't strip quilt it, but I think it could be done that way.

ReplyDeleteI love that pattern. Much more like a wave of blocks than a tesselated floor tile. It lets the fabric blocks sing. Lovely.
